How to Disable Cisco PIX Mailguard (SMTP fixup)
Recently I encountered this issue with Barracuda.
When trying to telnet outbound from a Barracuda and ESMTP Inspection is turned on in a CISCO ASA you receive a banner that looks like this:
220 **********************
To fix this Barracuda recommends disabling ESMTP on the ASA.
Here are the steps to do so from ASDM:
- Login in to ASDM and navigate to Configuration tab, click Firewall button, then select Service Policy Rules.
- Select the global policy and click Edit
- In the edit Service Policy window select the Rule Actions tab
- Uncheck the option for ESMPT
- Apply and save the settings.
ESMTP Inspection should now be turned off and the 220 banner will have the name of the mail server.
